Welcome to the Kingdom of Atenveldt!

The Kingdom of Atenveldt is part of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a not-for-profit educational organization that studies western European history by recreating the "best" pastimes and crafts of the Middle Ages.  The Atenveldt branch of the SCA encompasses all of Arizona and small parts of Utah and California.

The SCA has 19 Kingdoms (regional chapters) located around the world. The populace in those Kingdoms devote their free time to tournaments, festivals, educational collegiums (classes), feasts, revels, and all sorts of arts and sciences dating from pre-1600s western Europe. We try to bring the best of the Middles Ages back to life, by making an attempt at the proper clothing (we'll provide help with that), or learning calligraphy, fencing, dancing, or whatever medieval activities you find interesting.

Most importantly, the SCA is not the same thing as a Renaissance Faire, because it is participatory. There is no audience. Every person plays a part in creating the atmosphere. We hold weekly meetings (sometimes called "fighter practices"), and "events" (get-togethers where costumes are required) nearly every weekend. Some feature armored combat tournaments and feasts, some are orchestrated around medieval pomp and circumstance (audiences or "Courts" conducted by Royalty), while others focus on learning more about particular crafts.

Atenveldt is blessed with a year-round sunny clime, so our events often feature full weekends of activities at camping events, including bardic revelry around campfires! So, look for the group that is closest to you, or check out "How to find your local SCA group" to find a group near you. And welcome to the Best of the Middle Ages!

Barony of Atenveldt Fighter Practice Must Move, Opinions Requested - Thursday, June 18, 2009

Citizens of Atenveldt - Hear These Words

The use of Encanto Park for Barony of Atenveldt fighter practice is an item that must be negotiated three times a year with the City of Phoenix Parks central district parks office.

League requests take precedence over group use requests.  Leagues have requested and been granted Monday, Tuesday, and  Wednesday nights for the fall term. The city representative is aware of our long history; however he is  bound by policy. Therefore he processed our request for the next available night instead of merely returning our request as declined.
For this we thanked him.

The day granted for our use of Encanto for the fall term is Thursday night.

We must determine by the first week of August whether we wish to accept the Thursday night slot at Encanto, or decline and seek out another practice location to maintain our Wednesday night tradition.

Baron Otto, Baroness Lisabetta, and I are accepting written opinion on this matter. Please make clear whether you prefer to keep Wednesday night as the practice night and find another venue, or keep Encanto Park and practice on Thursday nights.

REMEMBER:
1) This will be renegotiated for the January 2010 to May 2010 period. If we want to return to Encanto then, we can submit a  request to do so.
2) Written opinions are necessary in order to insure proper representation. E-mail to Their Excellencies at atenveldtcoronet@gmail.com or to me at seneschal@baronyofatenveldt.org. Please copy both if sending e-mail. Physical letters accepted by either party; we will
tabulate and confer.
3) Anyone is welcome to submit an opinion.

Best Regards,
Thegn Rhys ap Trahaearn
Seneschal, Barony of Atenveldt

Greetings unto the Chroniclers and Virtual Scribes of Atenveldt - Thursday, April 23, 2009

For decades the Known World Handbook (KWH) has been a must-have resource for any newcomer to the SCA. The last update to this quintessential publication occurred over 14 years ago. Over the next year or so, the SCA will be revamping this critical handbook from the ground up. The goal is to release a new KWH for sale through the SCA’s online Stock Clerk by the first quarter of 2010.

We are looking for anything and everything a newcomer to the SCA could be interested in. If you have an idea for an article, send it on in. There is no limit to new and fresh ideas. For a list of sample topics visit: www.sca.org/kwh

Try to keep the articles between 800 and 3000 words, and please submit them via Word files or in the body copy of an email to kwh@sca.org. Authors of existing articles in the KWH are invited to refresh, renew, and update their prior KWH articles. If you send in any article, artwork†or photograph, please fill out the KWH release form available at: www.sca.org/docs/pdf/kwhrelease.pdf
